BDS Academy Team
OKBet European Masters of BDS Academy have been on fire all summer. They were among the favorites to win the LFL, and when they upset LDLC in round two of the playoffs and advanced to the finals, it seemed as if they may just make it. However, a 1-3 setback in the grand final gave LDLC the trophy, while BDS finished second.
They’ve been on a rampage from the start of the EU Masters, with a flawless, unblemished record in the event thus far spanning groups and play-offs. They ended with a 6-0 record and first place in their group, easily defeating Team Heretics, SK Prime Gaming, and Valiance twice each.
Then BDS Academy snubbed Vitality Bee and Gameward out of postseason contention at OKBet European Masters, winning both games 3-0 and keeping their perfect league record. Vitality Bee, their quarterfinal opponents, were just no match for the BDS juggernaut. Vitality were brushed away like flies in the third and decisive game, despite putting up a fight. In the semifinals, Gameward pushed BDS harder, but Adam ‘Adam’ Maanane predicted correctly.
Over three games, the top laner was responsible for a massive 21 kills, with bot laner Ju “Crownie” Marui not far behind with 16 total kills. Despite Gameward’s aggressive approach in the final to rescue the series, BDS’ gold and tower lead was ultimately too much for them to overcome. Given that no team has been able to defeat them in the last month, it’s no wonder that the LoL predictions are heavily slanted in favor of BDS.
After a five-year hiatus, Heretics has returned to the competitive LoL scene, and what a comeback it has been. They were seeded second in the round robin earlier this summer at the LVP, and after defeating the Giants 3-0 in round two of the playoffs, they advanced straight to the championship. They defeated the same opponent 3-1 there as well, and were declared LVP champions at OKBet European Masters.
Except for the all-important finish – Heretics finished in top, while BDS slid to second – the trajectory was very similar to BDS’ performance at the LFL.
They’ve passed on that magnificent form to the masters. They were seeded second in their group after losing just two of their six games against the same unstoppable opponent. Their knockout stage was not without incident, but the outcomes ultimately favored them. In the quarterfinals, they faced Unicorns of Love Sexy Edition, a formidable, cohesive squad that, contrary to their moniker, is usually difficult to defeat.
The Heretics claimed the first game of the best-of-five series, but the Unicorns tied it up in the second, and it continued back and forth until the series decider. Marcin “iBo” Lebuda and Jakob “Jackspektra” Gullvag Kepple each had five and four kills, while the rest each had three.
Heretics will compete in their second final in two months after making a fantastic return into professional football. While the LoL chances favor BDS, you may expect Heretics to put up a good fight on OKBet European Masters.
